Grandpa Cherry Blossom is the story of Frances Uyematsu, a Japanese immigrant, told through the words of his granddaughter, Mary Uyematsu Kao, and Chuck Currier, a local historian and former teacher. Uyematsu created a booming flower nursery, owning 120 acres of land in Manhattan Beach until the Japanese-American interment during World War II, where he was forced to sell his land.
On May 15, 2023, MB United organized a sold-out screening of the critically acclaimed documentary, Grandpa Cherry Blossom, at the Hermosa Beach Museum, followed by a Q&A Speaker Panel with film maker Maddox Chen, Chuck Currier and Mary Uyematsu.

By popular demand, a second screening + panel discussion was hosted on July 18, 2023 at Mira Costa High School, land once occupied by the Uyematsu Family Nursery. Over 200 people attended the event and visited the plaque dedicated to Francis Uyematsu.
